My Favorite Quiet Time Resources for Small Children

Are you looking for quiet time resources for your toddlers and preschoolers? Here’s my favorites so I can have some time uninterrupted time with Jesus.

Being a mom of small children comes with many challenges (as does every other season of parenting, of course).

One of the biggest challenges I have found in my mere four years of motherhood is the ability to have a consistent quiet time with the Lord.

We all know it’s rarely quiet in a home with small children, and getting time alone to shower, let alone to meet with the Lord can be downright impossible at times.

However, time with the Lord is imperative, essential, and necessary to who we are as daughter’s of the King.

Getting consistent time with the Lord is a time that we need to fight for as moms – grueling through the sleep crusted eyes, the weary bones, and the inability to even find our Bible that we know we left on the coffee table last night.

We need to not only make time with the Lord a priority for ourselves, but for our children as well.

Recently while talking with another young mom, she asked:

“[Do] you know of any DVD daily devotions for kids? I’m looking for something like that to have them watch so I can squeeze my quiet time in at the same time.”

I thought this was such a great question, and I’m guessing she’s not the only one with this question!

When my family went through a time of transition with churches, we did church at home as a family for several months.

Each week, we’d do a Bible study with our son with a go along craft, and then set him up on the couch with a DVD while my husband and I listened to a sermon online.

The DVDs we chose always carried a biblical message, and we discovered some amazing gems during this time of doing church at home.

Whether you’re looking for some Bible based DVDs to share with your child for fun or to occupy them so you can have a quiet time, the following are our favorite quiet time resources for small children.

Theo DVDs

We absolutely love Theo DVDs.

They have a storybook feel to them – almost old-fashioned. They are short enough for small children, but steeped in biblical truths that you can feel good about.

My son absolutely loves watching these videos. They are peaceful, humorous, and perfect for small children.

We love all of these:

What’s in the Bible with Buck Denver

My son really enjoys What’s in the Bible DVDs. These are less entertainment and more educational – though there is definitely a lot of humor and silliness in them that children love.

What’s in the Bible DVDs will not keep your child entertained for hours, but they are perfect for when you want to squeeze in a quiet time for yourself.

Both of these DVD series have several options to choose from so you’re sure to find something that works for you.

I know what it’s like to just want five minutes to be with the Lord.

These are great options for children while instilling God’s truth in their little hearts.

  1. This is super helpful info I plan to use this year. It’s so easy to rely on on-line videos/movies hwne I need the kids to sit still for a few moments…but I want to be more intentional with what my 2 kids hear/see. Thank you!
