How to Make Bible Story Stones

We love our Bible Story Stones. They are such a great way to talk about the stories in the Bible, build vocabulary, and promote imaginative play.

I use Bible Story Stones with both my toddler and preschooler!

Bible Story Stones are simple to make. You just need some stones, a few craft supplies, and a little time.

How to Make Bible Story Stones

Supplies:

What You Do:

First, take a walk with your toddler or preschooler and collect stones. You’re looking for stones that fit in your child’s hand relatively easily. You also want at least one side of the stone to be smooth.

Don’t forget to bring along a basket or bucket to collect the stones.

Then, let your child wash the stones and lay them out in the sun to dry. You could also let them dry inside during the cooler months.

While your child is otherwise occupied, start painting various pictures on your stones. I’m not really all that artistic, but I thought these turned out really well! I used various size paint brushes to get the effect I wanted.

Our Bible Story Stones:

  • Rainbow
  • Tent
  • Star
  • Boat
  • Whale
  • Tree
  • Loaf of bread
  • Fish
  • Apple
  • Water
  • Flowers
  • Sling shot
  • Night sky
  • Lightening bolt
  • Sun
  • Crown
  • Rain clouds
  • Stone tablet
  • Fire
  • Cross
  • Snake
  • Dessert (this wasn’t painted; it’s just the way the stone looks)

Let your paint dry. Then, put on two coats of modge podge to help seal the paint.

Once everything is dry, you can put your story stones in a basket to store.
