how to create a welcoming front door.

How to Create a Welcoming Front Door with These Simple Tips

flower center piece-1
As the world sheds its winter layers and the warm rays of sunshine burst forth, I get the itch to create beauty in and around my home.

The old has gone.

The new has come.

Hallelujah!

As I fling open the windows, shake out the rugs, and pack up the mud boots, I’m looking at my home with eagerness. I can’t wait to freshen my decor and brighten my home with simple touches here and there.

I want my home to be a place that makes it impossible to not think about God, which means I want those who enter my home to feel welcomed and loved. I want my family to experience God’s grace, as well as those we welcome into our home through hospitality.

One of the first areas of my home I love to bring a touch of beauty is my front porch.

The front porch is the first thing we see upon returning home, and it’s the sign to all that this is home and you are welcome.

I’ve been collecting ideas these past several weeks on how to make my front door more inviting. My Pinterest usage always picks up this time of year!

I thought it would be fun to share with you my favorite tips and some inspiration! You know, a peek into my life and my taste for beauty. So here goes …

how to create a welcoming front door.

My 5 Tips for How to Create a Welcoming Front Door

1. Keep it simple

Don’t think you have to do anything extravagant. Keep your decor simple and within your budget.

  • Give your front porch a good scrub
  • Sweep off the welcome mat
  • Wipe down the front door with a wet cloth

If you want to take it a step further, then throw out a new welcome mat and give your door a fresh coat paint.

It doesn’t have to be extravagant to be inviting (and clean!).

2. Add something unique

I love unique touches throughout my home, and the front door is no different. I‘m going to add a “hello” sign to our front porch this year!

I found this adorable hello wreath as a I browsed Pinterest.  I love how rustic it is!

I think these “hello” signs just scream, “WELCOME!” Don’t you?

Think about how you can add a unique touch to your front door to make it more welcoming.

3. Use plants and flowers for some natural beauty

I’ve always added simple potted plants and/or hanging flowers to my front porch.

Flowers and greenery add such a natural beauty to your front porch. I love attracting butterflies and smelling the sweet scents of the flowers as I sip my tea during afternoon rest time.

Sigh ….

This year, we’re taking it up a notch (thank you very much, Pinterest!).

How beautiful is this vertical pallet garden? I already have my pallet and an eager hubby to help me! I’m giddy excited about adding this to our front porch! I keep squealing every time I look at this picture!

4. Spruce up your house numbers

My house is in dire need of a house number upgrade. So many people pass our home because they can’t see our address.

I’m loving these flower pot house numbers. It’s not a permanent solution, but it’s a fun touch (unique, maybe?). These could be cute going down the steps!

Make your home more inviting by helping your guests find you a little easier by sprucing up your house numbers!

5. Add seating for a touch of warmth

I love sitting on my front porch in the afternoons. Adding comfy seating to your front porch is not only inviting for those who visit, but for you as well! Add a pillow or two for even more visual appeal!

I can’t wait to start making changes to my front porch. The snow is finally gone, and now I’m itching to start freshening up our decor and planting flowers and sitting in the sun and going for bike rides and … oh, sorry! I got a little carried away.

What about you? How do you create a welcoming front door?
