Free Topical Bible Reading Plan on Self-Control

You might have heard it said that the fruit of the Spirit is self-control. But what is self-control and what does the Bible have to say about it? Download this FREE topical Bible reading plan and spend 21 days meditating on what God’s word has to say about self-control!

There is a fundamental truth about self-control that I missed for many years.

I thought if I “just say no” to temptation everything would be fine. I could just stop whatever bad habits I possessed, and I could by the very act of my will make myself be a good person and do the right things.

The problem was that I couldn’t “just say no.” I didn’t have enough willpower or guts to “just say no.”

I remember many nights lying in bed, throwing prayers to the ceiling and wishing I hadn’t given into sin.

Again.

What I needed was self-control, but the thing about self-control is that it is a gift.

Because you see, self-control is a fruit of the Spirit.

Romans 8:13 tells us that it is “by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body.”

So, how do you grow in self-control?

Is it a fruitless effort to even try to grow?

By no means!

As I contemplated how to compile this month’s Bible reading plan, I kept thinking that it is only by grace that we receive the Spirit of God that enables us to live godly lives.

And we can only obey God in as far as we know God.

Therefore, with the help of my assistant, Ashley, we’ve compiled 21 verses on self-control that you can meditate on while asking the Holy Spirit to help you grow in wisdom so that you might walk in obedience to His word.

The fight for self-control is actually a fight of faith.

As you invest in the things that God’s word says you should invest in (Bible study and prayer to name a couple), you can take hold by faith that He will help you grow in self-control.
