I love Christmas! The birth of Jesus is such a wonderful reason to celebrate! Counting down to Christmas is a beautiful way to demonstrate to our children how the world was holding it’s breath as it waited for the Messiah, waiting for the Savior of the world.
There are so many ways we can count down the days to Christmas with our little ones. This year my oldest will be nearly three years old. He understands more, and so I can plan more! That makes me happy. Really happy! I can’t wait and so I’ve been collecting ideas and putting a plan together. I thought it would be fun to share my plan with you in case you’re still wondering what to do!
We used Truth in the Tinsel last year with Samuel, and he absolutely loved it. Honestly? I’ve been looking forward to this December so I could do Truth in the Tinsel again! So I should rephrase that as WE loved it.
Each day Truth in the Tinsel leads us through a scripture reading, corresponding ornament craft, and talking points for us to share with our son. We love walking through the story of Jesus with this easy to use plan. I cannot wait to get started. Cannot wait!
If you’re looking for meaningful Christmas ornaments, but don’t want to commit to doing one every day, then check out 5 Simple Christmas Crafts for Toddlers & Preschoolers. Jenni put together some really cute ornaments, as well as teaching points for each to go over with your child. You can get the go along Bible lessons here. My boy loves crafts so much, we might even incorporate these into our December days.
Two years ago, I created a very frugal Advent calendar for my family. We have used it for the past two years, and I plan on using it again this year. It’s so cute and simple. You can learn how to make your own here.
Instead of getting a treat each day of the advent, we do different activities together as a fun way to create memories as a family. You can see our 2011 Advent Activities here and our 2012 Advent Activities here. There are free printables on each of those posts!
I just finished putting together our family advent activities for 2013 this week. You can download a free printable of our activities here: 2013 Advent Activities.
Here is a glimpse of some of the advent activities we will be doing:
Finally, we love books. So we’ll be reading a Christmas book each day of the month. Because we never sit down to just read one story, I will just check them out from the library and corral all of our Christmas books from around the house, then read at leisure.
I am really looking forward to the holidays with my family. We’re going to intentionally tuck into home life and outreach within our community.
This means I will be taking a break from Intentional By Grace. There is a lot moving and changing behind the scenes, and right now I really need to time to be with my family and pursue the Lord for what He has in store for the coming year.
I will still be on Instagram because I love chronicling life through photography. I won’t be taking a break from capturing moments of my daily life. 🙂 So feel free to follow me on Instagram to stay in touch through the holidays.
I love you all dearly. I am grateful for the community of Intentional By Grace. It is a joy to write in this little space, and I look forward to new things in the new year! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and a Joyful New Year!
