6 Summer Toddler Activities to Learn Numbers and Increase Number Awareness
Are you looking for activities to do with your toddler this summer? We’ve got you covered with our 15 Days of Intentional Summer Toddler Activities Series. Today we’re sharing six toddler activities to help increase number awareness.

Just because it’s summertime and we are spending more time outdoors, it doesn’t mean we stop learning.
I want to be intentional to continue teaching my little one his numbers throughout the summer in fun and engaging ways.
He can count to ten, but that’s about it. So, this summer we’re going to work on more counting as well as number recognition through play.
I’ve gathered a list below, some with links, but most with descriptions as I brainstormed what to do with my toddler. I hope you find these ideas helpful.
6 Summer Toddler Activities to Learn Numbers and Increase Number Awareness
1. Neighborhood number hunt.
Go for a walk and point out any and all numbers you see.
This can be license plates, house numbers, etc.
You can also count the number of objects, animals, etc. you see.
Elk maybe? Yes…these amazing beasts come through our yard and graze on our neighborhood playground often.
2. Hopscotch.
This has endless possibilities. Simply draw a hopscotch game board, and play hopscotch.
We will be combining learning numbers with growing his gross motor skills as he learns to hop from one number to the next.
If you’re toddler is ready, you can throw a couple of rocks into the squares and add the two numbers together.
Or you can toss a rock, identify the number, and find that many objects from nature.
Like I said, the possibilities of using a hopscotch board is endless.
3. Parking lot with numbers.
I’m going to use this idea from Counting Coconuts (scroll down the post a little).
But instead of inside on paper, I will do outside with chalk in the driveway.
We’ll make it big enough for dump trucks one day and regular cars another.
4. Count flower petals.
We love digging in dirt around here. When we’re working in the garden, we’ll count flower petals, flowers, worms, rocks, etc.
Just being intentional to count what is around us will open up endless doors of learning opportunities.
5. Fill a dump truck with rocks.
What kid doesn’t love rocks? We’ll drive our dump truck around the yard picking up rocks, or whatever other object we want and count as we go.

6. Outdoor Number Hunt from Making Boys Men.
This looks like so much fun! I can’t wait to try it with Sam.
What outdoor learning opportunities for numbers can you add to the list?
