Yesterday I shared a quote from the book The Discipline of Grace: God’s Role and Our Role in the Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges. The entire book talks about God’s role and our role in the pursuit of holiness.
How are we supposed to live in light of the gospel? We’re forgiven sinners, so now what? Do we have any responsibility in this whole dance with Jesus?
The pursuit of holiness, the journey of becoming more like Jesus, takes work, hard work. Our part in becoming more like Jesus takes discipline and that’s where so many go wrong. So many work so hard at being good that they fall into the trap of legalism. Then others of us take for granted the grace of God and fail to pursue holiness altogether.
I’ve been on both sides of the stick … all in the same day. The pursuit of holiness and becoming more like Jesus is a lifelong journey – one I’m still figuring out. I found Mr. Bridges book, The Discipline of Grace: God’s Role and Our Role in the Pursuit of Holiness, to be incredibly helpful in defining my role and God’s role in my walk with Him. If you’ve ever struggled with legalism verses imposing on God’s grace, then this book will help you learn to lean hard into Jesus and the grace made available to you while passionately pursuing a life of holiness.
I am taking these 31 days to re-read this informative and inspiring book. In my pursuit of understanding everyday grace, I have found this book invaluable.

I love Grace for the Good Girl by Emily P Freeman – one of those books which I was nodding all the way through, so much rang true for me.

That’s a great book! Thanks for reminding me about it!
Sounds like a great book. I come from a very legalistic background and have recently come to a much better understanding of what grace is and what it looks like for me. I wrote a 31 post series on my blog about it this summer: http://beautifulinhistime.com/category/personal-and-spiritual-ramblings/the-wilderness-between-legalism-and-grace/
I also recommend Grace for the Good Girl as mentioned above and Tired of Trying to Measure Up by Jeff Van Vonderan!
