2017 Reading Challenge: November Update

It’s time for the 2017 Reading Challenge update for November! It’s hard to believe that I set the goal to read 104 books by the end of this year and the year is almost over.

I’m not even going to come close to hitting my goal, but I truly never expected that I would. I mean, I believed it was possible, but I also wasn’t determined at all costs to hit the goal.

I set the enormous goal to give myself a true challenge, to push myself beyond my comfort zone, and to read outside my usual genres of books. I cannot be more pleased with how this year has gone for me with this enormous goal.

Best Books Read So Far (best books determined by inability to put it down):

What I Read in November:

Hiding from My Kids in My Prayer Closet, by Jessica Kastner – This book was light and fluffy. I didn’t care for it because I expected something a different. However, I’d put this on a “beach read” list for someone in need of a laugh and just wants some brain candy without compromising on content.

The Moffats, by Elanor Estes – We read this one aloud together as a family. We all adored this book! Of course, now the boys are asking for another brother or sister because “we need a perfectly even number” too!

Uncomfortable: The Awkward and Essential Challenge of Christian Community, by Brett McCracken – I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book, but I really enjoyed it. I particularly liked how he dove into the Reformed Charasmatic movement a bit as this is probably what I most identify with by way of “comfortable” church for me. I’d recommend this book as something that will make you think a little about how your view of church has been shaped by what you’re most “comfortable” with.
