I’ve started and stopped this post several times. How does one come back to blogging after a month long, unannounced break?
What do I say?
What do I tell you?
Where do I start?
I’m not sure so let’s just go back to the beginning.
In 2009, my husband and I began to pray about the possibility of launching a site where I could share about my passion for living intentionally for the glory of God. But it wasn’t until April 2011 that the Lord gave us the green light and laid on our hearts the wonderful mission of Intentional By Grace.
In my first ever post, I confessed the following:
This site erupted into being and brought along every insecurity I have. I do not feel capable of managing a blog with an actual focus. I do not feel capable of writing on a larger scale with more frequency. I do not feel like I have anything of consequence to tell you about.
However, it is through these insecurities that God and my husband saw fit to push me into the water. The water is deep. I don’t particularly like water. I wear gloves to do my dishes because I hate getting my hands wet. I don’t like swimming in a lake because I can’t see my feet. I don’t like the ocean because of it’s power.
My friends, I’m scared. I’m afraid of what it is to come. However, my fears are buried within me. They are without thought of God and what He is capable of doing.
What will this blog accomplish? Will it serve my readers? Will I make a fool of myself?
Most of these insecurities remain.
I’m daily humbled by the sheer thought of thousands of people reading what I write. I’ve made a fool of myself at times. But through it all, God has been faithful.
Since this scary beginning, I’ve gone on to publish an eBook, 20 Minute Meals, partnered with Nikki to establish Butterfly Ministries, LLC, rebranded Christian Mommy Blogger into a blog to encourage other mommies building online ministries, co-authored Intentional Blogger: A Guide to Growing Your Blogging Ministry, and launched Intentional Homeschool.
But all of this pales in comparison to the people I have met through blogging. There is an incredible web of women working day-in and day-out to make Christ known through their blogs! I’ve become personal friends with several of our readers and even had the privilege of meeting many in person. Hearing your stories is one of the highlights of blogging!
As my fingers shook over the keyboard and my palms sweat as I published that first post, I had no idea what I was in for. Blogging has been a pure joy and an incredible blessing!
Until it wasn’t.
The numbers started to matter too much. The deadlines became too strict. The words became too trite. The criticism became too much.
And I needed a break. A nice long break.
The past month (or more) has been a time of drawing into my family, resting under the wings of my Heavenly Father, and listening intently to the Holy Spirit. It has been not only a time of rest, but a time of incredible renewal.
But I’m back.
By grace, we’ll move forward here at Intentional By Grace.
And so expect regular posting to resume. I’m excited to be back in the saddle. We’re getting back to the heart of our mission and why we began. So expect more personal stories, and to come alongside my family (and Nikki’s) as we seek to live intentionally day-by-day while relying fully on the grace of our Lord. This may mean we camp out on pregnancy for the next few weeks because that’s the season I’m in. It may mean we share recipes one after the other some weeks because I’m in cooking mode.
We’re getting back to the heart of blogging, of doing life together, as virtual as it may be. Because I believe it is in community, in the tangible living, that God can become greater in our eyes. It’s in daily picking up our cross and following Him that we find life’s great reward – a life lived for Jesus.
If you have a moment, we’d love to hear from you.
Once a year we survey our readers so we can keep our finger on the pulse of who follows along. We love knowing why you read Intentional By Grace, as well as your suggestions and comments!
