Intentional Conversation: Every Need is Not Your Calling

Welcome back to another week of Intentional Conversations! Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the phrase, “Every need is not your calling.” I think it can be hard to say no when your flesh wants to say yes. We can exhaust ourselves saying yes to everything without first consulting God and determining His purpose for our lives. But even so, how do we say no with peace when the need is so great?

And when it was day, he departed and went into a desolate place. And the people sought him and came to him, and would have kept him from leaving them, but he said to them,”I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose.” ~Luke 4:42-43

Let’s see what Jesus has to say about our struggle to say no when the need is not our calling.

Lord, make us women who seek Your will for our lives. Give us strength to say no when the need is not our calling. Lord, give us discernment to know when to say yes, and give us peace in choosing Your will for our lives. Amen.

Do you have a hard time saying no? Tell us about it in the comments!

When I got done, I thought if her. This was heavy on my heart for the ladies at MOPS yesterday. So I’m realizing more and more this being a wide spread issue for women especially. Even I struggle with it from time to time, but I think that’s why I’m so set on living intentionally and truly seeking God’s face because I want more women to be filled with that peace, that peace that comes when abiding. Anyway, that was totally a tangent. Thanks for listening ;)

Thanks for taking your time for this. I am not usually one that struggles with saying no, but I sometimes struggle with guilt because I do say no, and this was most helpful! :)

I find that seeking my husband’s wisdom and leadership helps keep me out of trouble with this. My go-to answer for most things is, “Let me ask my husband first.” After I’ve sought my husband’s opinion, I force myself to follow his advice and trust that God will honor my obedience to the scripture, even if I wish my husband’s answer was different or I feel guilty for saying “no.”

First of all, congratulations on the upcoming Baby Dutton 2.0 :-) (At least that’s what I assume you meant by “number 2 is on the way”)

I say yes all. the time. And I’ve never really thought about how when I say yes to one thing, I’m probably saying no to something else… mostly because I usually operate under the assumption that there are about 32 hours in the day and I really can do it all. :-P

Thanks for the reminder that the most important thing is to keep in step with God’s calling.

Beautiful!!!! I just love this! And I truly loved watching your video, your voice is so nice and encouraging. This was a great reminder for me, sometimes I want to go out and save the world, but in doing so can neglect my true calling and priorities. This post has inspired a blog post for me about really evaluating what my calling is from God. Keep up the encouragement!
