Do you sing your baby lullabies? I (LA) have to confess to you, I don’t. Do I sing to my baby? Yes, every single day since the day he was born! But I haven’t sung lullabies. Part of it probably stems from the fact that they weren’t sung to me. More often than not, my mama sang songs she made up. And this is something I’ve continued to do with my boy (in addition to singing “Amazing Grace” every night as our final good night song).
I (Nikki) sing lullabies every night to my little girls. I have been known to break out into sporadic lullaby singing in the middle of the day when a little girl is sad, or snuggly or just wants to hear “bullabies.” My mother sang them to me when I was a little girl so I am returning the favor to my little girls. Plus, they think I have a pretty voice. So I want to get in all the singin’ I can before they discover what my voice really sounds like!
So when I (LA) heard about Lullaby Confessions, I thought they would be like all the rest. Will you allow me to be blunt? I thought they would be lame, pointless songs that waste my breath. Remember my personality is strange. So, if you like lullabies, the traditional ones, I’m not poking fun at you. They just aren’t my thing. And I thought Lullaby Confessions were going to be much of the same.
I (Nikki) personally didn’t have anything but excitement about receiving this album. As I mentioned before, I was exposed to lullabies as a baby and little girl and I have been singing the same songs. While all of the songs (okay, most of the songs) are Bible lullabies that teach truth, I do find myself in a rut. The only way I can learn songs to sing is to hear them first (clearly). So I was happy to download the Lullaby Confessions album and play the songs not only for my girls, but for me to learn! Big problem with learning new lullabies? Most of the time they are in fact, just sweet, gentle songs. One’s that fill our children’s minds with pretty sounds but not a lot of truth.
Then, we read the following on their website and we were hooked.
Most lullabies are random songs that are slow but often have no meaning. Why not tell your child all the encouraging truths about them from day one?
We love the concept of Lullaby Confessions for a number of reasons:
- Centered on who our children are in Christ
- Encourage our children to dream big dreams for Him
- Speak truths of Christ to our children’s hearts
We love this album. When we first read that the lyrics were positive affirmations set to music,we were hesitant. We didn’t understand what they meant by positive affirmations. But as we listened, we learned that it was nothing more than speaking the truths of who we are in Christ, as well as encouraging our babies to dream big dreams.
Our reactions after listening to the complete album:
The melodies are beautiful, different, and easy to learn. I (LA) got to put them to the test as I was writing this post! My son woke up in the middle of his nap upset and unable to fall back to sleep, which never happens by the way. I began singing “Sweet Slumber” to him, and he nestled into my chest and fell right back to sleep. I was amazed.
Now, of course I don’t think it was the magic of the lyrics, but instead, the singing and being with Mommy. However, I do think it was nice to know I was singing a prayer for sleep and peace over him.
I (Nikki) had no idea what to expect, but quickly discovered how easy they are to listen to and repeat. After hearing “You’re Worth” only once I was humming and singing bits and pieces! We will greatly enjoy learning more of these songs!
